Jumping

The August Pace and Poker run had some of the best weather yet, and was a great ride. The riders liked the trail, the new jumps, and the challenge of fishing for cards in trees…

Our Riders are getting pretty darn good at riding the optimum times---the first and second place teams in the open division were separated by a mere 14 seconds!

Once again we had some new faces as well as old friends. Good conversations in the barn after the ride, and we even had a bite of lunch with some of our competitors (who obviously know how to travel to horse events---lots of wonderful food!) One young lady went home with a nice poker pot, and we heard she will be using it to help fund attending the Lendon Grey Dressage for Kids! Love to hear that it’s going to a great adventure and we wish her luck.

Pictures will be posted on the Big Loop Hunter Pace facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well.

September is coming up so darn quickly! We have a nice long ride (for those who want to go a bit less adventurous, we will have an alternate shorter route) but both will offer plenty of jump opportunities and hopefully the start of lovely fall colors in the scenery. The next pace is September 25. Come early, bring friends and enjoy the day. We will work on making it another good ride with some challenging trails and exciting jump efforts, large and small, so bring your favorite horses, a few friends, some snacks and enjoy the next ride. We know you all have many choices for your fun budgets and we appreciate your support throughout the season--its what keeps us going! We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for good weather, but as always, we will ride...Rain or Shine!

Congratulations to our August riders. A great ride with good times! Well done! Results are listed below.

The July pace is history, which means the Series is half over. Yikes!!! Summer is flying by, but with lots of good riding days ahead of us, we still have lots of time to enjoy our horses. July was not quite as hot as previous weeks, and the trail thru the woods offered some relief from the sun (yes, sun!). We had a great group with competitive times. Thanks to all who came to have some fun at the Loop and we hope you'll all come back and bring friends!!

Glad to see more new faces this month and we hope they will become 'old friends' as the season progresses. Every pace has had new attendees, which is awesome. It would be amazing if all our newcomers came at the same time to one (or two) of the paces. We again appreciate the good advertising from 'word of mouth' and your votes of confidence. We are always happy to hear the pace made the travel to get there worthwhile! And even more important, that folks want to come back.

Times for the paces were pretty closely bunched, with only a minute and a half two separating our first and second place teamsteams. Winning novice time was only 40 seconds off the ideal time. Time for the Pace managers to get more creative and start changing things up.....

Pictures will be posted on the Big Loop Hunter Pace facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well.

The next pace is Augusst 21, and we will be doing the Poker Run. Buy a hand for $10, pick cards up along the route, and the best hand will will half of the poker pot. It should be another fun one.

June proved to be another good ride! The weather though warm was great and we were thrilled with the group. Thanks to all who came to have some fun at the Loop and we hope you'll all come back and bring friends!!

Glad to see more new faces this month and we hope they will become 'old friends' as the season progresses. Every pace has had new attendees, which is awesome. The May pace was a perfect start to the season! Great weather, and a super group of 30 riders made for a most encouraging start of the series. We were delighted with the number of riders who came out to have some fun at the Loop and we hope you'll all come back and bring frineds!!

It was great to see familiar faces and to catch up after a long long winter, and to meet so many new friends this pace. Fun to hear who finished school, that one of our riders is expecting and glad to know folks are back in the saddle after some medical issues. We are always happy to hear the pace made the travel to get there worthwhile! And even more important, that folks want to come back. Things went pretty good for the first pace of the season, in spite of a few mechanical issues for some participants.

On a personal note, I was thrilled to see Chandelle High Skymaster and Connie Bates drive in with Carrie and her horse. Sky was purchased by Connie last fall, and went home with her from the Loop in October. This was his first trip out for an adventure and he seemed pretty darn happy! What a great pair they make.

Pictures will be posted on the Big Loop Hunter Pace facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well.

The next pace is June 26, and should be another fun one. October 17 was the last pace and in some ways my least favorite--because its the last one of the season!! This year, we had the added excitement and consternation of a snowstorm. However, the brave souls who came to ride enjoyed the trip. The scenery was an interesting mix of fall colors enhanced with a bit of white. The post ride chili was most welcome and some of our exhbitors from previous rides joined us for food and conversation.

The High POint scores were tabulated during lunch and the results for the Open division put the team of Linda Kotlarsz and Toni Schueler on top with Bernice Pierson as reserve. Interstingly this year, we had many riders who chose to go open more than novice, so there was no single high point rider in novice. We were glad to hear positive coments about this pae, as well as thruout the season, and most important, that folks want to come back next year!

WE hope you had a fun season, and great holidays. Tentative dates are posted for 2010, so check the website for updates. We know you all have many choices for your fun budgets and we appreciate your support throughout the season. We hope to see you next year! We will always ride Rain or Shine!

The September pace is history! We were delighted with the number of riders who accepted the challenge of the longer ride, making September the largest group of riders this summer. Weather cooperated and the rain held off until after the last riders were back at the barn! We had many compliments on the trail and the jumps. Always nice to hear.

It was great to see so many new faces this pace, as well as our old friends. We were happy to again hear the pace made the travel to get there worthwhile! And even more important, that folks wanted to come back!

This pace, the open route was the long (about 12 miles) ride and the novice was shorter (about 7 miles) routes. As we did last year, for year end high points, a "difficulty coefficient" for the open long route is factored into the points calculations.

October 17 is the last pace and in some ways my least favorite--because its the last one of the season!! However, it is always a good ride, and this year should be no exception. With luck, the colors will be at peak. We will also be offering post ride chili and a chance to socialize for a bit while final points are tabulated for the year end high points. Please join us and if you'd like, bring a dish to share.

Bring your favorite horses, a few friends, some snacks and enjoy the last ride of the season. We'd love to end the year with a record turnout so spread the word! We know you all have many choices for your fun budgets and we appreciate your support throughout the season. We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for good weather, but as always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

The August pace weather cooperated with warm temperatures, even tho it rained on Friday. Riders didn't get too wet on their tours, and most participated in the Poker run as well. Becky Holman was lucky at cards and went home with the Poker pot!

We welcomed new faces again to this pace, and were gratified to hear the pace was worth the trip. One team of first times may have had beginner's luck and won the Novice Division!

We continue to work on jumps and Septmber will see between 30 and 40 jump opportunities. Randy loves seeing those hoofprints on both sides of the fences!

September 26 is the next pace, and the longest ride of the season, so plan on seeing good fall colors, and enjoying a tour of the Loop! There will be a shorter 'Loop' as well, for Novice riders. We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for a little drier weather, but as always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

Halfway thru the season, and it seems to be racing by—my usual complaint—summer goes too fast! The July pace was somewhat drier than June and we had a great turnout. Several new riders joined us for their first time, and while a few took unplanned alternate routes, all seemed to enjoy the ride.

Two teams had the thrill of seeing bears crossing the path, the first team seeing a youngster, and a following team a larger bear...best guess is that Mom was looking for “that darn kid”. No interaction with the bears, (no worries) just the fun of seeing them in their habitat.

August brings the “Poker Run” with the pace, on August 22, so if you’re feeling lucky, bring some cash, along with some friends and take a chance. For the poker run, five stations along the trail will have cards in sealed envelopes. Collect one from each of the 5 stations and bring the unopened envelopes back to the finish. The envelopes will be opened by the management, and the best poker hand (5 card, nothing wild) will be the winner, and will receive half of the poker pot. It costs $10 to buy a chance at a hand. And if you don’t want to play poker, no problem, the pace will run as usual.

We have had some requests for larger/more jumps, and have already been working on them, so look for more new jumps. Randy loves seeing those hoofprints on both sides of the fences!

We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for a little drier weather, but as always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

The June pace was a test of our "Rain or Shine" philosophy, with heavy rain for much of the morning. Hats off to the hearty souls that came, rode and had a good time! The warm temepratures and no wind made the conditions easier.

We had a good turnout, with several 'first timers' joining us. We're always glad to see old friends and to welcome newcomers to the event. Even with the rain, the riders enjoyed the trail and jumped the jumps! And in once again, very closely spaced times.

The next pace is July 18, and as always, we’ll ride rain or shine (and we really hope for the shine). Bring your favorite horse, and favorite friends and come for the fun of it! We hope to see you at the Big Loop in a few weeks!

After waiting all winter, the first pace of the season is already history! We had a great day for riding, after heavy downpours earlier in the week. The trails were dry, the creeks weren’t too high and spirits were high.

We had a great turnout, and it was fun to see friends from last year as well as greet new riders. Interestingly, all riders this trip rode in the Open division and the times were all within 6 minutes of the optimum time, so pretty close for the placings.

The next pace is June 20, and as always, we’ll ride rain or shine. Bring your favorite horse, and favorite friends and come for the fun of it! We hope to see you at the Big Loop in a few weeks!

October ended our season with another perfect riding day, even tho it was 'seasonably' cool. The colors were bright, the horses frisky and riders were ready for the last pace of the season--some even turned out in Halloween colors!

We had a great turnout for this ride, and again had some new riders come for their first pace, and whom we hope will come back next year to continue the fun. The times for the rides were tightly bunched, with less than a 10 minute difference from first to 6th place. Considering the length of the ride, we tip our hats to all the riders and their ability to rate their horses at a good hunter 'pace'!

Folks who stayed for the ribbons enjoyed the camarderie that sharing good horses and horse stories creates. And of course, the food helped too. The snacks to celebrate the end of the pace were a treat, and we thank all who brought the tasty delights.

We'll be posting pictures from all the 2008 paces soon on the web, so check again. We are already talking about next year and we will be back. We hope you will too. With the new tractor comes plans for even more trails and jumps, so stay tuned and we'll keep you posted. Our goal continues to provide an opportunity for exciting fun and safe rides.

The results of the pace are listed below. We congratulate all of our riders on great efforts and super sportsmanship. Thru the season, the placings have shifted and changed as riders have tested their horses and themselves at different levels. We are delighted to see the progress and the changes thru the season. Congratulations to our winners for this pace and to our season High Point winners! See you all next year!

September brought another perfect day and we were happy to have it for the "Superpace". Twenty-one riders all opted to do the full ride, and all made it back to the barn with their horses, tired, but mostly smiling. Sunny and a bit cool, perfect for a long ride. We had several riders take their horses in for a swim and many who tried the jumps more than once! Randy loves to hear that, and it encourages him to build more!

This ride was our first attempt at such a long ride and we were pleased that so many were so brave. October will be a bit shorter and we should have beautiful fall colors to enjoy. We will also have the end of season awards, and 'afterglow' chili so hope you'll stay for a bit. If you'd like to bring a dish to pass, feel free!

Our last pace for the season is October 18, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. We look forward to seeing you all. Bring your favorite horse and some good friends and have some fun!

The results of the pace are listed below. Please note there is a change in the open rider pinnings. The management reviewed the results and revisited our standing policy of pinning based on the time closest to optimum. We have tried to use that as our baseline, and have not eliminated people for going off course or getting lost in the past. We know it happens, and we know generally that when it occurs, it sorts itself out in the overall times. My apologies for any confusion, but we felt it important to remain consistent with our criteria. It has been and remains our goal to provide an opportunity for fun and a safe ride. We hope that you understand and support that plan. Congratulations to our riders!

We have had a string of good luck with weather this year, and August was no exception. Sunny and not too hot. Several riders opted to try their hand at Poker, and the lucky winner with a pair of queens was Linda Kotlarsz. From all reports, everyone enjoyed the ride and the addition of a variety of jumps.

The "Superpace" is set for September. A 12 mile ride (+/-) will be the plan, with a shorter alternate route if you are concerned about the length. There are about 35 jump efforts and as always, jumps will be optional with easy go rounds. Come and enjoy the longer ride, at a walk or at pace speed.

Our next pace is September 20, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. We look forward to seeing you all. Bring your favorite horse and some good friends and have some fun!

July was a super day for a ride, and the riders who came enjoyed good weather, and a great trail. The trails were in great shape, even after lots of rain during the week. New jumps were a challenge to some, and the addition of more smaller jumps made others happy as well.

We again had new riders who have traveled a good distance to join us. We appreciate the effort that takes and are pleased that you have joined us. We hope you all will return. We even had riders from Wisconsin, via Chautauqua this month. Always fun to welcome new riders and meet new people.

Feeling lucky? August 23 brings the annual Poker run, with the pace. Buy a 'hand', collect cards along the trail and bring them back unopened. The winner with the best hand will get half of the poker pot.

The June pace day turned out to be another super riding day. Yet again, rain the night before, but the sun came out making for perfect riding weather. We had a great group of riders, as always, and some first timers, including some who traveled quite a ways(who we hope will return). Good reports on the jumps and trails and everybody left smiling. Even Miss Muddy Butt, who demonstrated a graceful 'HRS' (horse/rider separation)into a mud puddle!

We also were treated to a cowboy mounted shooting demonstration by Eric Stormer and Muldoon Macaroon. Eric and 'Mac', a 16 yr old Morgan, did two patterns for us, with nary a miss on the targets. They made galloping thru a complicated pattern and shooting balloons look easy. It was fun to watch and we appreciated the extra time and effort Eric and Erica put in, bringing the cones, and setting up. Randy did an admirable job of blowing up the balloons!

Our next pace is July 12, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. We look forward to seeing you all.

The first pace of the season turned out to be a great riding day. The sun came out after a wet night, and the trails dried up nicely. Some of our riders took all of our jumps, which makes Randy very happy! He is already planning more and different jumps for the rest of the season, so look for some new challenges this year. It was great to see old friends as well as have some new riders join us, including another mother/daughter team.

Our next pace is June 21, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. Weather and babysitters permitting, we hope to have one of our teams also give a "Cowboy Mounted Shooting" demonstration in the afternoon, around 2:30pm, so plan to stay and see this new riding adventure.
