The rest of the story...
Early May started with a dressage clinic with Michelle LeBarre instructing Cooper and rider Kristen Sackett on the finer points of dressage. Excellent information and learning for both horse and rider.
End of May brought the WNY Morgan Show and Cooper competed in both Carriage and Dressage. Coop was High Point Carriage Champion of the Show, for the second year in a row! Blues in working and supereinsmanship helped put him on top.
Next up was the Amateur NY Morgan Show, and Cooper did a repeat, winning the Carriage High Point Championship.
July and our first trip to Penn-Ohio Morgan Show for the carriage classes. A great and fun show with friendly people made it worth the trip. While Meadville had its share of rain and we drove in sloppy mud, Cooper ended up Carriage High Point Champion, in a hotly contested set of classes. Blues in Gamblers Choice and Fault and Out and two reds and two yellows gave us the hat trick! Saturday afternoon, July 4th, just after a lovely (and dry) High Point recognition, I received a call from my horse caretaker saying that my bred mare was showing changes and looking anxious…
So I packed up the horse and trailer and hit the road, arriving at the farm at 9:30 pm, and believe it or not, before the mare foaled! However, as mares will, as I checked on her thru the evening, she decided to wait until she was alone to present us with her lovely black filly! At 11:50 pm, July 4th, on a routine check, I found this sweet filly resting on the straw. We haven’t officially named her yet, but she is a firecracker for sure!
Hunter Paces at the Big Loop have been fun again this year, and I look forward to the monthly trip to the Loop and the great riding. We’ve had super turnouts for each of the paces, including one in driving rain. I’d love to see more people and horses join us, and have enjoyed meeting all of the new riders this year. We continue to expand the trails and build bigger jumps.
Chancellor went out for a month of saddle training early in the summer, and is progressing well at home. This big sweet boy has a great attitude and is learning more everyday and is getting to be a fun ride. His stablemates are all enjoying a pretty easy summer, in spite of seemingly endless rainy days.
Walnut Hill is coming up and before we know it, the September Regional Show and great fall riding. 2009 Plans
Spring is finally arriving and we’re getting ready to go back to work. Lots of plans for this year. We have horses for sale, so if you are looking for something special, please contact us.
Here is what we are planning so far…
Chandelle High Noon was "cover boy" on the NYSMHS Trader newsletter! We were thrilled with this honor. Cooper will pick up dressage and carriage work again, with plans for the May clinic and WNY show. Acorn Ridge Black Diamond joined the herd in December. This lovely black mare by Chandelle High Orion out of Beevalley Shalene is in foal to HVK Dragon Beat for a (hopefully) black baby in 2009. Chandelle High Chancellor (NLF Vigilant x Equinox Magnifikate) is going into training at Sunny Acres, with thoughts of Silver in his pretty head. Chandelle High Wright Pursuit (Chandelle High Noon x Chandelle Victoria) will be making his dressage debut this year. Chandelle High Boeing Summer (Chandelle High Noon x Caja’s Foxy Lady) will be learning about carriage driving. Chandelle High Songbird (JMF Black Flame x Glenmeads Windsong), a bay yearling is growing nicely. She will probably mature at 15+h. Sweet and bold, she is for sale.

The rest of the story...
In addition to carriage shows, Cooper made his debut in Open Dressage at the WNYDA Paduka Run show in July. Solid rides with Kristen Sackett resulted in a Blue in Training 4, with 18 in the class, and a second in First Level 1, with 16 in the class. Cooper wasn’t intimidated in the least by the warmbloods!
He followed that performance with a repeat at the NY Regional, scoring High Point Champion in Training Level, First Level and Overall Highpoint Dressage horse (for the second time!) Kristen and Cooper managed a score of 74% in Training 4 and a very respectable 66% in First 4. His dressage points were tallied at the year end and Cooper was announced NY High Point Dressage Winner. Many thanks to Kristen for her excellent showing of Cooper!
The new fillies, Chandelle High Songbird(out of Glenmead’s Windsong) and Chandelle High Blue Sky (Chandelle High Noon by UVM Vanna) are weaned and growing into sweet independent young ladies. Their uncles Chance and Ace seem to take very nice ‘big brother’ attitudes with the fillies, and with yearling Amelia. The girls certainly aren’t afraid to ‘mix it up’ with the older horses, but also don’t hesitate to high-tail it to the barn occasionally.Chandelle High Gail Force and Chandelle High WildKat were sorry to see the last pace at Big Loop in October. We had great rides all summer, and once again enjoyed exploring new trails for next year. Miles and miles of riding in almost always good weather. Deer, fox, herons, grouse, woodcocks, porcupines, and a couple of bears were spotted this year when riding.
On the west coast, Chandelle High TigerHawk and Elizabeth made their dressage showing debut and proudly trotted out of the ring with two blues in their first show! Tiger is always up for new and different things, and now has added dressage to his ever growing resume…hunter pleasure, drill team, jumping, hunter paces, trail, carriage …all with his partner and best girl, Elizabeth.
Two New foals!, arrived at Chandelle the end of April and the end of May. The first, a bay filly out of UVM Vanna by Chandelle High Noon is sweet, refined and very correct. The second, another bay filly, arrived while we were at WNY show. Glenmead's Windsong presented us with a bright big filly by JMF Black Flame. This one is truly a 'pocket pony' she is soooo friendly and sweet. A beautiful head, great straight legs, and a balanced body make her one to watch for.
Show season started with the Western New York Show. Chandelle High Noon shown in carriage by Jo Ann, was Carriage High Point Champion, winning the working, reinsmanship and seconds in the obstacles. He showed in dressage by Kristen Sackett and had very good rides.
Chandelle High Wright Pursuit, is back in training at Sunny Acres Farm under saddle and is doing well. Ace had good ribbons at the WNY show, and most recently, in a Jr. Exhibitor class at Syracuse International. He has the mind and attitude to make a perfect Amateur or Junior Exhibitor horse. He has a terrific work ethic—if you ask a little of him, he’ll give you double and still have energy in reserve. He is offered for sale.
Chandelle High Gail Force and Chandele High Wildkat are back on the Hunter pace trails at Big Loop, and enjoying every ride. The horses seem to enjoy the trails and discovering new ones as much as we do.
Chandelle High Skymaster has continued his training under saddle, with a refresher at Sunny ACres. By High Noon, out of River of Dreams, he is a nice mover and could easily go hunter or western. A pretty head with a sweet disposition, he would also be a super trail horse candidate.
Chandelle High Boeing Summer is started under saddle and is looking pretty in her bridle. This lovely filly, by High Noon, out of Caja’s Foxy lady has her daddy’s trot with a lovely feminine head. She will make someone a super carriage or hunt seat horse.
Also check out for sale Whiskey Hill Tiger Lee x Equinox Magnifikate. 6 yr old gelding, 16H, has started a career in the hunter arena with potential in Dressage or Jumping. He has a big open trot, pretty headed with a good brain, this sweet chestnut offers lots of possibilities. Cat is great on trails and enjoys hunter paces. Cat's sire is a full brother to Long View Sundance, 4 time world pleasure champion, and his dam is by Courage of Equinox. His breeding says he can do anything you want. To put his size in perspective our rider is 6' tall!
2007 Highlights
- Chandelle High Tiger Hawk took home the Jerry Kropp Memorial Carriage Driving Trophy for most accumulated points in the carriage division at two NY showsbefore he went to Seattle. We’re thrilled to have another lovely plaque on our wall.
- Chandelle High Noon had a great 2007 NY Regional show. He was Regional Carriage High Point Champion, Regional Dressage Training level High Point Champion, Dressage High Point Champion and these earned him the Sport Horse Championship Award.
- Chandelle High Gail Force was Reserve Pleasure Trail High Point horse.
- Chandelle High Wright Pursuit (Chandelle High Noon x Chandelle Victoria) continued his winning ways under Sunny Acres training, and was WNY Champion, Jr horse, Pleasure Driving. "Ace" took blues in the 3 yr old futurity classes at the Regional as well. He was Reserve Futurity 3 yr old High POint Champion at year end.
"I ride." This was sent to me by a friend, and I wanted to share a wonderful sentiment. I hope you enjoy this. It has helped me thru this long winter, when I couldn’t ride. To all of you, who know what this is about, enjoy! I ride.
With the show season winding down Chandelle Farm has a lot to reflect on. Fall brings pretty colors, fuzzy coats and quiet trail rides. Check out our ad in the Morgan Connection
Chandelle High Wright Pursuit, in training at Sunny Acres Farm had an impressive show at Western New York, and was Champion, Jr horse, Pleasure Driving. "Ace" went on to the NY Morgan Regional, where he was 1st in NY Futurity 3yr old driving, 1st in NY Futurity 3yr old stallions and geldings, and reserve futurity 3yr old under saddle. This handsome 3 year old has trot and action to spare, paired with the disposition of a kitten. He is by Chandelle High Noon, out of Chandelle Victoria. Check out the sale site for more pictures. He has a terrific work ethic—if you ask a little of him, he’ll give you double and still have energy in reserve.
Chandelle High Tigerhawk had a busy summer. Tiger came home from WNY as Reserve High Point, and with blues in Supereinsmanship, Progressive Obstacle and Timed Obstacles. The following weekend, we went to the Northampton Driving Show, and came home with a second in reinsmanship and a third in working. The timed obstacles brought home a 5th, but not bad in a field of 15. Thunderstorms cut the day short, but we were happy with the performances in the open show. Two weeks later, at the Amateur show, Tiger managed to win 4 out of 5 classes, and the high point championship. We were delighted when the judge applauded our scurry and progressive classes, and said “that was impressive!” I was thrilled with Tiger’s performance for sure! Tiger was shipped to Seattle where he is now fat and happy riding and jumping with Elizabeth. He’s very excited about being with ‘his girl’ again.
Chandelle High Noon was put back to work, after Tiger left for Seattle. With little time to prep, "Cooper" was off to Walnut Hill to show his stuff in the carriage arena. Cooper took a 3rd in the Scurry obstacle, and a 4th in Progressive obstacle, and showed his elegance by winning the roadcart presentation award on the Pleasure drive, and what a pleasure he is to drive. Then on to NY Morgan Regional, where after having several years off decided to put his feet back into the Dressage arena. Cooper and Kristen Sackett made a great team, winning training level test 2, 3, 4 (with a score of 72). Making them Dressage Training Level Champions, and winning the Joan Sackett memorial trophy. Back into harness with JoAnn as whip, Cooper, won the scurry, and working, 2nd in reinsmanship, 3rd in timed obstacle, making them the Carriage driving Champions as well.
Chandelle High Boeing Summer is started under saddle and is looking pretty in her bridle. This lovely filly, by High Noon, out of Caja’s Foxy lady has her daddy’s trot with a lovely feminine head. She will make someone a super carriage or hunt seat horse.
We are pleased to be leasing UVM Vanna, from Pat Walter, and she is bred to Chandelle High Noon. Cooper again settled his mare on one heat cycle, and Vanna was pronounced In foal on the first day of summer!
Chandelle High Gail Force and Chandelle High WildKat put on some serious miles riding the times for the Big Loop Hunter Paces, after a successful season, they can't wait to get back to it next year, with new trails, new jumps, and lots of fun. Don't forget how they love to take a nice swim after to cool off.
We congratulate our stallion Chandelle High Noon and Foxwin Estarzie on the birth of their lovely daughter, Foxwin Deva. Pat Ross’ mare foaled in early May and the filly looks lovely!
The first day of summer also brought us a lovely bay filly, by High Noon, out of Chandelle Victoria. This sweet upheaded darling was born on the Solstice, and will be registered as Chandelle High Amelia. It was a perfect ending to a long day. She grows prettier and friendlier every day. She loves people, and is already trotting over to the fence to say hello to visitors.

What Makes Chandelle Farm Go Around?
Chandelle Farm is a small family owned farm in western New York. We have
been raising Morgans for over twenty years. The first attraction to Morgans
was to their disposition, beauty and versatility; the focus of the breeding
program has been to capture and maintain those qualities. Chandelle Farm has
concentrated on using "Old" Morgan bloodlines (like Flyhawk, Upwey Ben Don,
Chasley Superman, Pecos, and Ulendon), with excellent results. The horses
are sweet, good minded and athletic--fully capable of being the cherished
versatile Morgan. Chandelle Morgans have successfully competed in all levels
of competition in open and breed shows and in many disciplines, including
carriage driving, western, hunter, jumping, dressage, english pleasure, and
pleasure driving as well as 4-H, pony club, three-day events, and trail riding.
Most importantly, these Morgans are all family friends and their owners have
loads of stories, pictures, and ribbons to prove it!
Chandelle Farm generally has one or two foals a year and usually has horses for sale. We are always happy to show off these treasures. Please contact JoAnn Squier at jochandell@aol.com or at the address listed for more information. If you are looking for more information on the Morgan Horse check out the New York State Morgan Horse Society or the American Morgan Horse Association.
